Displaying Children's Drawings and Other Artwork

I love having my children's drawings and other art projects out for me to see, but I wanted a display solution that was changeable, neat-looking, contained, and that didn't poke holes in their work.

When I didn't need this white frame, lovingly made by Dear for Elora-Belle's nursery, for its original purpose anymore, I used it in the sunroom to frame a rotating selection of the kids' artwork. Here's how:

How to Display Children's Drawings

Materials

  • Frame -- Just an empty frame, no backing, matting, glass, etc. Use one you don't need anymore, or you could easily pick one up at a thrift store.
  • String or twine
  • Staple gun
  • Clothespins -- I used miniature ones I picked up from Michael's.
  • Scissors

Construction

Step One: Tie a knot in one end of your twine and staple it to the back of the frame, as shown in the picture below.

Step Two: Add additional strings, as dictated by the size of your frame. My frame allowed for two strings across if I wanted space for the choice of either horizontal or vertical display of 8.5" x 11" pages hanging from both strings.

Step Three:  Clip your clothespins to the twine, ready to hold your children's masterpieces!

I'm happy to have the kids' precious handiwork right near my desk, and they are thrilled to see their work up on the wall. Little D regularly points to the display and says, "Wah-dah's? Baboo's?" (That's: "Elora's? Baboo's?" for those who don't speak Danny; and Baboo is another of Little D's nicknames, long story.)

I hope that displaying their work and thereby showing them not only that it means a lot to me, but also that it's "worthy" of hanging up in the house helps bolster their creative spirit and their artistic endeavors -- from kids crafts to well beyond.

  1. That's a great idea, Shifrah. I will keep it in mind. :)
